Participation
GED Preparation
The CT Adult Virtual High School is pleased to make available an online GED Prep Course for use at the CT
Adult Education local education agencies that offer the GED as long as they have received training and
have designated staff to fulfill the roles resposiblilties.
This online preparation material is available in two ways.
- Access your own local version as a self paced, ala carte option for GED study and enroll students as your program sees fit with the following recommendations:
- Suggested scaled scores of 235 in Reading and 225 in Mathematics on the most recent CASAS assessment.
- Comfort with the use of a computer, online Orientation to Online Learning suggested.
- Face to face supplemental support as is needed.
-
GED Prep breakout courses will be provided with a 50 seat maximum on a rolling enrollment basis.
Two courses, GED Prep Math and GED Prep Reading and Writing will be offered beginning in the spring.
These courses will have no formal beginning and end dates. Students will work at their own pace through
the course material. Teachers will not require anything of the students but activity within the
courses. If a student shows no activity for two weeks, their seat in the class is dropped,
leaving an opening for another student. The discussion board will be available for students as
they work through the material, and discussion prompts may be posted by the teacher for commonly asked
questions and learning opportunities. Synchronous chats may be scheduled for specific subject support
throughout the year. The CT Adult Virtual High School will hire a teacher to provide just in time
support to students as they encounter questions within the course.
- Local Mentor support for these courses is required as documented in
GED Prep Mentor Responsibilities.
- Suggested scaled scores of 235 in Reading and 225 in Mathematics on the most recent CASAS assessment.
- Comfort with the use of a computer, online Orientation to Online Learning suggested.
- Students must read and agree to the
Student Weekly Activities.
Administrative Requirements
A local Online Learning Coordinator is responsible for enrolling their students in the GED
Prep courses and dropping them from the courses when they are finished. Any student that remains
inactive for two weeks from a course with limited seating will be dropped by the CT AVHS administrators.
- Once per year in August all students will be removed from the courses as part
of a system maintenance process. Any student that is still working can be re-enrolled as is
needed.
- Review the System Requirements for use of the CTDLC Blackboard System.
Training
Training for current participants of the CT Adult Virtual High School will probably not be needed, as the
enrollment and navigation will be familiar to you. Training will be scheduled on an as needed basis, for
both current and new providers. Contact Gretchen Hayden (860-832-3891)
